There are great misconceptions around the subject of spiritual gift. Many people believe that spiritual gifts are for a selected few while others believe that miracles and gifts ended since the days of the apostles. But what does the Bible really have to say about this, let’s have a look.
2 Reasons why spiritual gifts are for everyone:
1. Jesus is our great example
Jesus was well known on earth for His many signs and miracles. People received healings just through His touch without any hassle. (Mark 3:10, Mark 5:28-29, Mark 7:31-35). We see from these scriptures that Jesus was not trying to persuade people to believe in the miraculous, rather people trooped after him in search of miracles. They knew without any doubt that He was able to heal them. It’s a great mindset to have that If Jesus did it, then you and I can as well. Remember, “As He is so are we in this world”
2. Gifts are for the assignment
Every believer has been commissioned to preach the gospel to all nations (Mark 16:15) and spiritual gifts are for this assignment. Jesus in Mark 16:17-18 was not leaving anyone out when he said “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Maybe you are asking “why then don’t I see spiritual gifts at play in my life”?
It’s because practice makes perfect. Some believers conclude that spiritual gifts are not for everyone because they have not exercised their faith and gifts. But the truth is, without practice there is no perfection. Don’t let failed attempts stop you from believing and exercising your faith. Instead, keep at it and as you practice, it gets better. Your discernment is sharpened and you see more spiritual gifts in your life. God’s word is dependable and he has promised that these signs follow you.
