How to Discern the Leading of God

How to Discern the Leading of God

God is always willing to lead you, he never wants you as his child to be in confusion or to be clueless on what step to take next. However, it is possible not to know that God is leading you because you have set your mind that God only leads in a particular way.

Here are five ways to discern the leading of God (P.R.I.C.E):

1. P- Persuasions

In Acts14:8-9 apostle Paul perceived that a man who had been a cripple from his mother’s womb had faith to be healed. In the natural sense, you perceive only with your nose but that’s not true in the spiritual realm. There are times that you just sense some things strong in your spirit. You know in your spirit that this is what you should be doing or this is the next step you should take. It’s an impression in your spirit. Those are called persuasions and it’s one of the ways God leads today.

2. R- Restrictions

God can lead you through restrictions. You may feel restraints concerning some things you should be excited about. There might be a restraint not to do business in a certain location or go somewhere. An example in the Bible is when Paul was about to go to Asia to preach the gospel and he was restrained in his spirit from going there (Acts16:6). A rule you should have as a believer is that even if you can’t explain it, you should not ignore it. Instead, pray about it.

3. I- Ideas & passions

As a Christian who has the spirit of God, your passions can no longer be ignored. Even if God has not categorically spoken to you directly, chances are that these passions are a pointer to your destiny. However, this does not mean that anything you’re passionate about is God’s leading, but there are times that you have these overwhelming thoughts, things you were never passionate about now become so important to you. That’s one of the ways God leads today.

An important question to consider now is “How do I know when it’s just my human passion or a supernatural one?”

  • When you pray instead of it reducing, it increases. If it is your flesh, the more you pray about it, the more it reduces.
  • Investigate the motives. If it is God, it will be traced to a deep seated selflessness.

4. C- Confirmations

There are times when God may be speaking to you about something and somehow it seems everything around you is confirming what God is telling you. That’s a confirmation. It could be a word of knowledge from your pastor, friends or church family.

5. E- Ease

It is important to note that ease does not mean easy. What this means is that even if what God is asking you to do is difficult, there will be a sense of ease in your spirit.

Finally, many have missed out on God because they do not know how God leads, it is crucial that you pay attention to the various ways that God can lead you and not have a stereotypical approach to the leading of God’s spirit.
