There is so much for you to do in this world as a believer. However, there is only so much that you can do without a consistent spiritual life. You shouldn’t be one of those believers who run in the shadow of a fervent spiritual life they once had. Whether you are already slacking and you wish to strengthen your spiritual life or you think yours’ is good enough as it is; seeking ways by which you can grow in fervency should be a major and constant goal for you.
Five Ways to Strengthen Your Spiritual Life
1. Surround Yourself with Spiritual things
What you see through your eyes is the biggest concept of education in our world. You will easily become anything you see repeatedly. Don’t underestimate the power of association. Surround yourself with people that you can see doing the things you also want (James 1: 23-25). Always keep within your sight what you want to be. If you see the right things and recollect the right things, you will do the right things. If all that you read, listen to or watch is not fuelling your spirit, you will be cold. Learn to feed your spirit always.
2. Put in The Required Work
When you have an exam coming up, you don’t neglect reading because you don’t feel like reading. Instead, times like that are when you push yourself and go the extra mile to ensure that you read. You should be willing and able to do the same things when it comes to spiritual things. Simple efforts like having alarms set for bible study, prayer and sticking with a devotional will go a very long way. You should also learn to set spiritual goals and plan towards them.
3. Do Spiritual Things Repeatedly
A simple trick to overcome your lack of interest in something is to do it repeatedly. A lot of times, you need to throw it beyond the mark for you to actually get a balance. For instance, you should keep on praying until you stop feeling like not praying. You can do anything you make up your mind to do if you are consistent with it. You should stop being unbothered about the things of God; learn to create an emphasis on them and watch yourself get better at them.
4. Be Accountable to Other Believers
It is a given that we all need each other to grow (Romans 1:11-12). Being overly individualistic in your approach might be the reason why you are struggling in your spiritual life. A simple way to overcome this is by having a Bible study and prayer partner. (Proverbs 27:17).
5. Put Structures in Place
Setting up routines such as having a to-do list for each day makes you more productive. Likewise, you need to have specific prayer times, Bible study times and evangelism times too. Learn not to leave your spiritual life to chance. You need to draw up a plan. Set up fixed times for spiritual activities and stick to them.
Now is the time for you to rise up in your fervour and take charge of your spiritual life. You need to stop putting up mere spiritual appearances and focus on cultivating your spiritual life. Follow these simple steps and watch your spiritual life change radically.
