“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God”
From the moment we become born again, we have the responsibility to renew our minds, to re-programme our minds by the Spirit.
It is our spirit which is reborn, but the mind and body remain the same except we do something about it.
The truth is that after we become born again, we still have sinful cravings, we cannot in one day wipe our minds of all that it has been exposed to.
We have a responsibility, we must be intentional. We must renew our minds (Romans 12:2).
“As obedient children, not fashioning your yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation”.
1 Peter 1:14-15
How do we renew our minds? The Bible answers:
“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind”
Ephesians 4: 22
We renew our minds by focusing on spiritual things. This is the time to give ourselves to the ministry of the word and prayer.
When we study the Bible, we engage our minds with things that matter. And when we pray, we edify ourselves– we rise above the flesh and become more sensitive to the things of the Spirit.
The Bible says:
“Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”
As believers, we are responsible for the renewal of our mind. We are to let our new spirit renew our body and mind for righteousness.
This can only happen when we spend time in the place of word study and prayer.
