Have you ever felt far from God at any point? Do you feel like that right now? You are not alone. It happens to even the best of us as believers. However, it shouldn’t stay that way. Here are four things you should do when God seems far away:
1. Get closer to the Word of God
You’re probably struggling with bible study now too and it’s understandable. However, this is when you actually need to stay longer with God’s word. You need to learn to put God’s word over your feelings. One proof of being spiritually mature is when you know that there is something beyond what you can see, feel or touch. Sometimes, you get to feel God strongly in your Christian walk but many times, it’s like you can’t feel Him at all. And here’s the thing— you don’t need to! Like 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, your christian walk doesn’t depend on your feelings but on your faith in God’s word.
Moving with the Word and letting your feelings catch up is an important training to have. So when you feel far from God, it’s an indication that you need to study His Word more.
2. Confess God’s word frequently
As a person of the Spirit, you need to speak out God’s word to yourself and to Him. Confessions can help your feelings catch up to your faith. Hence, as you study the Word of God, confess it a lot. It will help you feel closer to God because talking to your hearing what God has said in His word about you will help your feelings align faster.
Here’s an example of things you can confess: ‘’Lord I thank You. Great is the mystery of Godliness; God was manifest in the flesh. I thank you for the reincarnation. How you came, just to die for me. You died my death and on the 3rd day, you rose again. You were risen for my justification and your word says everyone who believes in You shall not perish but have everlasting life. I have everlasting life and I thank you because you are the right hand of God exalted, You have shared forth these which we now see and hear. I have the Holy Spirit living and active in me. Because I have the Holy Spirit in me, I’m going to have a vibrant christian life. I will never be ordinary. You said ‘Lo I’m with you always. Even to the end of the age, you are with me. As I step out today, I’m conscious of your presence; conscious of the power of your Spirit, conscious of what I carry, of who I am. I am the light of the world.’’
3. You need to correct any contradictions in your life
Sometimes, your feelings might be because there are certain acts in your life that contradict your position as a believer. Entertaining contradictions will dull your senses to the consciousness of God’s presence, making you feel far away from Him. 2 Peter 1:5-8 emphasises the need for your actions as a believer to match up with who God has called you out to be. Your feelings of feeling far from God might be a call to consecration. You have victory over sin. Don’t dull your sensitivity to the Spirit with sin. Lay aside every weight and don’t let the devil dangle it in front of you as a reason to stay away from God.
4. Move
Take action! You need to take steps of faith especially in prayer. Prayer helps align your feelings to God’s word. When you pray in a heartfelt manner, you make power available regardless of how you feel. So. pray today. Hold on to His word and fellowship with God. Don’t sit in those feelings of being far away from God. It is possible to live in the fullness of the consciousness of what God has provided for you. A lot of believers might struggle with these feelings of being far from God but His plan for you is to have a constant vibrant christian walk.
